Three Great Opportunities Participate
Choir Project - Finlandia
For those with a passion for singing, our choir project offers the chance to elevate your voice alongside a vibrant community of singers, culminating in the powerful and inspiring Festival Finale – Finlandia
This is an exciting opportunity for community musicians to perform with some of the greatest performers in Australia today, and to be directed by maestro Roland Peelman AM. The repertoire will consist of an exciting new world premiere by Nicole Smede in the Gathag language as well as the Finlandia hymn, in both its original version and a new arrangement by festival artist Erkki Veltheim.
Choristers will be expected to pay a token fee of approximately $50*. This gets you a great and unique seat to see the rest of the concert, and will also help cover the costs of catering, merchandise, and a drink at the festival after-party where many VIPs and festival artists will be in attendance. See the rehearsal schedule below.
*Bursaries are available if the fee is a barrier for you to participate. ANU School of Music students are exempt from the fee.
Wind and Brass Project - Sonneurs
Nestled within the Dairy Road Precinct in Fyshwick stands a brutalist yet majestic monument, LESS. On Sunday 4 May, the graceful SONNEURS quartet will perform in and around the monument, providing a fresh experience of listening to traditional compositions. The program culminates in Walk on By, a participatory piece by Otomo Yoshihide.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from wind and brass players for SONNEURS. Performers should be comfortable performing at a high standard and, where possible, moving while performing.
Performance information – click SONNEURS
Selected participants will be required to attend three 3-hour rehearsals during the week of the festival, 30 April – 4 May, the details of which will be shared with selected participants.
Please note: Due to anticipated high levels of interest and limited spots available, it is unlikely we will be able to accept all applicants. If unsuccessful, we encourage you to apply for similar opportunities in the future.
Performance Project - Five Short Blasts
Join the Canberra International Music Festival in transforming iconic Canberra locations into sites with incredible music!
Every morning during the Festival, Lake Burley Griffin will become a rich source of music as part of Five Short Blasts. As a flotilla of electric Go-boats departs from Queen Elizabeth Terrace, the lake, and musicians around the lake, will respond. From the ringing bells of the carillon to brass drones to ethereal bagpipes and more, the lake will come alive with music to ring in the day.
We are currently seeking expressions of interests from performers of all types for Five Short Blasts. Performers should be aware that there will be a co-creation process in the lead-up to the Festival, and that the performers must be available for every performance.
